6th grader, Megan Jurek, has been creating the Frog Legs cartoons for the newspaper for the past two years and draws other cartoons in her spare time. She makes Frog Legs, Herb the Cat, and Pokey the Platypus. She started making cartoons in 2nd grade, but started giving them to the newspaper in 3rd grade. She got the inspiration for Frog Legs because she has a pet frog, her grandma likes frogs, and she loves drawing frogs in her free time.

Frog Legs - When I was in third grade, I began to love frogs because my grandma did and because I have a pet frog. They also looked like fun characters to draw. I wanted to draw frog cartoons, so that year Frog Legs appeared in our school newspaper. The characters of Frog Legs are usually one or two frogs who tell jokes, say funny things, or tell puns about frogs.
This is the March Frog Legs.
Herb - Once I read a book of facts about the United States, and I noticed a fact about a real cat named Herb (he was named after Herbert Hoover) with a little cat drawing next to it. I wanted to turn that drawing into a character of mine, so I drew my own version and created Herb, a big yellow cat. Herb plays the ukulele and loves to swim, which is unusual for a cat. He loves to eat peanut butter, and his friends are the dog next door and the mice in his house. Pokey - Pokey is a platypus, an animal that not many people know much about besides the fans of Perry from the cartoon Phineas and Ferb. I looked online to find out more about the platypus, and they looked like they would make a great animal character. Pokey lives in the zoo, and he loves to go swimming and ice-skating at his pond. He likes worms and is chased around by the wolf who lives next door to him.
